Creation and Rest: God completed the heavens and the earth and rested on the seventh day from all His work.

The Garden of Eden: The Lord God planted a garden in Eden, placing humanity there to work it, take care of it, and enjoy the beauty of creation, including the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

The Creation of Marriage: Recognizing that it was not good for man to be alone, God created a suitable helper—forming woman from the rib of man—establishing the foundational blueprint for unity, partnership, and marriage.

Aligning Our Worldview with God
Many people lack a clear, concise worldview, yet it is fundamental to navigating life. When we look at Genesis Chapter 2, we find ultimate reality brought into practical focus across three main areas of human life: work, marriage, and rest. Aligning our personal perspectives with God’s design protects us from unnecessary pain and confusion.
Work: A Grace-Filled Calling

The Metaphor of the Garden: God placed Adam in a garden, using it as a profound metaphor for work. Work requires energy, pruning, shifting, and arranging resources.

Redefining Work: Work can be defined as the grace-filled, creative use of resources and energy for the benefit of others.

Overcoming the Trap of “Easy”: Modern culture idolizes ease and consumerism—the mindset that if something is hard or doesn’t immediately benefit us, we can simply discard it. This cultural pursuit of comfort causes us to grow discontent with our jobs and responsibilities. When we approach work by God’s grace to serve others rather than just ourselves, we walk in true purpose and freedom.
Marriage: A Powerful Partnership

Different on Purpose: When God created woman as a “helper,” the original Hebrew term carries the weight of a powerful force equal in strength, designed to stand facing the man.

The Two Becoming One: Marriage is a profound merger where two different lives grow into one another, offering an upgraded perspective and mutual support.

Persevering Through Conflict: Just like work, marriage faces intense pressure from the modern demand for “easy”. True relational rest requires sticking through the hard seasons rather than looking for an escape when things require effort.
Experiencing True Rest

Rest as a State of Being: God’s rest on the seventh day was not due to physical exhaustion, but a declaration that His creation design was finished.

Exchanging Our Striving for His Shalom: When we chase status, ease, and self-serving comfort, we end up trapped in a “glass prison” of our own making. True rest, purpose, and freedom are found by surrendering our burdens to Christ and embracing His unforced rhythms of grace, a reality purchased for us on the cross.
